Simon’s Money Notes has won a couple of awards, so I’d like to show them off if you guys don’t mind.
The first one was passed on to me by Ange at Angesbiz.com and it is the community blog award, I will pass it onto Kassper over at Make Money Online.
The Community Blog Award celebrates people who reach out and makes the blogger community a better one. It also underlines the importance of a blogs readership community, one of the most rewarding parts about blogging. It’s the people that come back to comment, adding to the conversation, making you feel like someone is listening and interested.
The other award was the blog of the day award which you can check out below, or you can see it on my sidebar. I think this one has a pretty cool look, so I’m quite chuffed with it.
And there you have it.

Highlights of August/September 2007
Like I said earlier, last month had its fair share of highs and lows. I have been very busy lately with some of my other projects so I haven’t been able to post as regularly as I would have liked. Having said that, Simon’s Money Notes did get a higher number of hits and unique hits last month. My RSS subscriber count has also gone up, and I’ve sold my very first bit of private advertising. But I have to say that the real highs of last month happened when Portugal scored tries against Scotland, and against the mighty All Blacks.
Goals for September/October 2007
Some of my other projects are starting to take off quite nicely so I won’t be able to put as much effort into my blog as I’d like to. Having said that, I’d like to continue to post at least once every two days, and once a day as much as possible. I would also like to see a steady increase in stats such as hits per day and unique hits per day. I would definitely like to see my RSS subscriber count rise substantially, and of course a bit more money is always nice.
And to go a little off topic, I’d like to see Portugal put up a very good show against Italy, and perhaps even beat Romania.

Alright its the 15th and time for another update. Its been exactly 2 months since I wrote the first post for Simon’s Money Notes, and I’m quite happy with the progress so far.
The first month was basically for gathering some momentum, but during the course of last month I really went for it in some areas and now we’re on our way. Some of the goals that I set for the last month included getting my daily unique visitors up to about 80 per day, reaching a Technorati authority of 100, and maybe making 100 dollars. I reached most of my goals and the ones that I didn’t reach came close.
With 49 posts in total for the last month, I think I reached my most important goal which was to do at least 1 post per day. Hopefully you guys have enjoyed reading them as much as I have enjoyed writing them especially since I’m not a great writer.
I will shut up now and give you the stats.

Highlights of July/August 2007
Last month had a lot of ups and downs. I guess the best times were when I was surprised to find out that I was number 1 on Technorati, and of course today was a highlight when John Chow paid a visit to my humble blog. Taking part in the 30daychallenge is definitely a highlight and continues to be. But I think the best times were when I was networking and meeting other fellow and successful bloggers.
Goals for August/September 2007
The goals for next month will be very simple. I think that last month a spent a lot of time trying to get my stats up, so for the coming month my goal is not to worry so much about stats and to concentrate on posting at least 1 excellent post per day. And I will be spending a lot more time networking and looking for other bloggers in my niche to collaborate with.
Keep coming.

A few minutes ago I sat down at my computer to make my one or two posts for the day, and I was suddenly hit by an unsettling realization, I had writers block! For those of you that don’t know what writers block is, its when you sit down at your computer, you think that maybe something great is going to come to you but all you end up writing is blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
There are a lot of elaborate theories for getting rid of writers block, and one day I’ll give you two or three of my own. But today the solution was actually very simple. I started surfing around other blogs, and checking my stats for the hundredth time when I decided to check how I was doing with Technorati. I love Technorati, they always have something nice for me when I’m down, but nothing in the world could have prepared me for this:
Some of you might be wondering what in God’s name are you supposed to be looking at and why is it so special. Well if you squint a little at the middle of the picture, you’ll notice that ‘Simon’s Money Notes’ is ranked number 1 and I’ve got a nifty little ‘Top 100′ badge next to it. I always knew I’d get to this stage but I never imagined that it would happen so soon.
Baffled, I wondered what had become of the mighty John Chow. I was a little disappointed to find that he was also ranked number 1. At this point I started getting a little suspicious, so I decided to check who was on that damn ‘Top 100′ list anyway. It was the exact same blogs that were there yesterday and the day before. I think I really started wising up at this point, and I thought that maybe I should check a blog that I knew had a lower rank than me, they would’ve been happy to see that they were also now number one.
After this ordeal I felt a little cheated, but I also felt a little relieved because I had finally discovered the secret to getting rid of writers block. Go check Technorati, because with Technorati every body’s number one.
I couldn’t resist.

There comes a time in a blog’s life (especially a new one), when the blogger needs to do a little cleaning, otherwise it becomes very easy for the blog to clutter up and become messy, and there is nothing I hate more than a messy, all over the place blog. I think that for Simon’s Money Notes the time has arrived.
When I first started this blog I knew what I wanted from it, but I hadn’t fully decided on what specific niche I would write about. I wanted to blog about money and finances (hence the name), but my ideas were all over the place. I think I’ve generally kept the blog financially inclined but when I looked at my labels on the sidebar, I wasn’t so happy with what was there. My topics include things like soccer, humor, computer games, personal, and harry potter, and I not so happy with having 3 or 4 link exchange topics.
I think that most of that has to go, don’t you? So I’m going to spend some time today cleaning things up. I think that its a good idea for any blogger to be aware of his blog’s appearance, and from time to time clean things up.
Ok, I’m going to make a few main topics like ‘make money online’, and ‘make money on the streets’ (I might change that title though), I’ll have one category for anything related to link building such as link exchanges and so on, I’ll keep my AGLOCO label, and my interviews and blogging labels. What do you guys think of this setup:
- About Me
- Make Money Online
- Money & Finances
- Blogging
- AGLOCO
- Interviews
- Reviews
- Personal
- Updates & Stat
- Link Exchange Programs
- Competitions (this one will be coming soon :-))
- Blah Blah
I really want to know what you guys think, so leave some comments with feedback.

My very first post on this blog was made on June 15, 2007, so its been exactly one month since I launched Simon’s Money Notes. What I’d like to do is post an update once a month detailing my progress for that month and my goals for the next month including how much I’ve made from what programs and so on.
I’m quite happy with the progress so far, some of you might know that I only started blogging a few months ago, so not only is this blog new, but the blogger is fairly new also. My goal for the last month was basically to post at least once a day on average, and to get some inbound links so that I could better my technorati rankings, and I think I’ve achieved that goal. With over 40 posts I’ve definitely done more than one per day. I’ll just run over some of the stats.
Income from Simon’s Money Notes for June/July 2007

AdBux.Org - $1.77
Hits4Pay - $10.22 (10 dollar sign up bonus)
Bux.To - $0.43
Take The Internet Back - $10.11 (10 dollar sign up bonus)
Total = $41.07
Other Stats from Simon’s Money Notes for June/July 2007

Highlights of June/July 2007
I exchanged links with some top blogs such as JakelDaily.com, and I have a few more lined up such as DesiBaba.com, and CareerRamblings.com. I was also invited to be a guest blogger at Random-Good-Stuff.com, which is great for my traffic.
Goals for July/August 2007
One of my main goals for the next month is to get my daily unique visitors to at least 80. I would like to focus on getting a lot more backlinks so that my Technorati Authority can go up, 100 would be nice. I would love to find a few guest bloggers, but maybe its still early for that. And of course, I’d like to make some more money, maybe I can get up to $100.00. But most importantly, I’d like to continue posting the best posts that I can daily.
Thank you for your support.

Some of you might have noticed that I was running a poll on the side of this blog asking whether you, the reader, would like to see less adds on here. I’m happy to say that I’m satisfied with the outcome, and I will be posting it here, and taking the poll down.
The question on the poll was ‘would you like to see less adds on this blog?’ Following are the results.
Yes - 11% (2 votes)
No - 72% (13 votes)
Don’t Care - 17% (3 votes)
As you can see, most of my readers are happy, or satisfied, with the amount of adds on the blog. But, I would like to try and please everyone. I myself was beginning to feel that it was becoming a little bit out of hand, and one thing I hate is ‘out of hand’ adds on a blog.
So, I will be taking down most of the sidebar clutter and put it all in some posts. How does that sound?
If you like this idea, please support me by doing any one of these things, vote for my blog on SpicyPage or Skinny, add a link to my blog (I will reciprocate), add my blog to your Technorati favorites, digg my posts, interview me, or you could just leave a comment.
Thank you.
Simon
